Ok so I just started tanning in a bed for the first time and I'm only planning on doing it so I don't look like a ghost on my prom (may 30th) I know that it can cause skin cancer, and I've done some looking around and heard people say that its supposedly "better" than outdoor tanning and things. I've looked on here at Answers and seen people argue NO TANNING IS BAD FOR YOU! THEY USE UV RAYS WHICH GIVES YOU SKIN CANCER. And my thing is uh.... the sun emits UV Rays, just like the bed. A tan is pretty much the result of exposure to UV Rays, no matter where you are. I've heard people say beds are better because you can limit your exposure, versus being outdoors where the height of the sun, conditions and weather change your exposure and you can't control it. I just want intelligent people giving their experiences and thoughts. None of that OMG ITS BAD DONT DO IT crap, or meaningless one-liners. I'm looking for actual info here. So if anyone has any thing they could give me, thank you. I'm Irish as well and burn horribly easy, in the sun i have to apply lotion every half an hour. I don't plan on increasing my tanning sessions beyond 7-8 minutes, for that reason alone, and I don't plan on going back after prom.
okayy well my prom is the 27th and ive been spray tanning...it looks better, and works quicker. as for if tanning beds are bad for you..it depends on what type of skin you have. Like i'm irish and i burn easily so its bad for my skin, yet my friends italian and she goes all the time and its pretty much the same as going in the sun for an hour. its all the length of your exposure..if you just go tanning for prom for a 2 week period you wont get skin cancer so dont worry.
