Im going to be doing a 2 month trip all across Europe and am planning on staying in hostels most of the trip. Since I know I will get bored with the same old bunk beds and leaky toilets, I am looking for the coolest, most unique, hostels that people have stayed at. Im talking haunted old wells, crazy castles, old nazi bunkers...anything that is out of the usual and worth the time and money. We will be in Portugal, Spain, France, UK, Austria, Switz, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Czech Rep, Belgium, Netherlands and Denmark. If you have any suggestions (other than just looking at websites and guide books) I would appreciate the info. Thanks
Best party hostel hands down is the Generator in London, but they have one in Berlin as well (I didn't stay at that one). Balmers in Interlaken is another great one. One that we thought was awful (my friends could only spend one night there, so we all ended up in a hotel) was Kabul in Barcelona - just want to warn you b/c it is a pretty famous one. It is in a great location though, and I haven't seen it in a while - could be better now. In Prague we stayed at Apple Hostel b/c of the great location. Really liked it except it does not have private showers. In Paris I recommend staying in the Latin Quarter (young people and best cheap restaurants) - we stayed at Young and Happy. Nothing terribly special about it, but we liked it (great location). MEININGER City Hostel is where we stayed in Munich. Booked it b/c it had a bar and thought it would be social, but no one hung out at the bar when we were there and the location was not very good (- kind of far, except there was a beer hall across the road). The rooms were nice, but it was a little disappointing socially. I don't have any weird ones for you, but those were certainly the most fun! Have a fantastic trip!
