Can anyone recommend the most energy efficient, heat producing gas fire/stove for the home? It would be used for short periods of time in the mornings, to suppliment central heating. Or does anyone know any good websites or brands for gas fires or stoves?

have you considered a wood burner the reason I say this is if you take all the junk mail even all your families soak them for a short while till you can compress them let them dry you have free kindling this surely is recycling

Log burners are the most energy efficient way to produce heat. timber burnt gives of carbon but what most people don't know is that timber left to rot give off the same amount of carbon as it decays so you will be helping the environment at the same time.

In general flueless gas fires are the most efficient but since reports of the death in Cwmbran from one, which according to the judge probably left the factory faulty, Registered Gas Installers have been coming up with all sorts of concerns about their designs and safety. They are banned in Canada and some states of America. They are promoted as safe because of their Oxygen depletion thermocouples and catalytic convertors but both of these failed to prevent a tragic death.
